Scanxiety
It's that time again. My scans are around the corner, and scanxiety is here. I did some research to explore how to neutralize scanxiety, and here is what I found:
Practice deep breathing: Deep breathing exercises can help you relax and calm your mind. Take a few slow, deep breaths and focus on your breath as you inhale and exhale.
Stay positive: Try to stay positive and focus on the things that you can control. Remind yourself that you have taken all the necessary steps to prepare for the scans and that worrying won't change the outcome.
Stay busy: Keep yourself busy with activities that you enjoy. This can help take your mind off the scans and reduce your stress levels.
Reach out for support: Share your concerns with a friend, family member, healthcare provider or support group. Talking about your worries with someone you trust can help you feel better and provide reassurance.
Practice self-care: Take care of yourself by getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in regular exercise. These activities can help you feel better physically and mentally.
Remember, it's normal to feel anxious or worried before medical scans. Try these strategies and be kind to yourself as you navigate these feelings.
Have you found success with any of these strategies, or are there other strategies you find helpful in mentally navigating through scans?
Possibilities
Today, I am reminded of the incredible power of possibilities. As someone who has faced the daunting challenge of metastatic breast cancer, I know all too well the importance of hope and inspiration. It was the possibility of effective treatment that led me to seek help and take action, and I am grateful to say that I currently have no evidence of advanced disease.
Yet, possibilities have also brought me so much more. They have allowed me to see my dreams become a reality, to watch my relationships thrive, and to open up new opportunities for writing and publishing. Possibilities are what drive me forward, and I encourage all of you to embrace the endless potential of what could be for you.
Blessings
Reflecting back to my high school days, I am filled with gratitude for the marvelous teacher who introduced me to the art of Haiku. Peggy Jean Townsend not only taught us the rules of Japanese poetry but also instilled in us a love for its rhythm and beauty.
I remember writing my very first Haiku under her guidance. The simple elegance and soothing rhythm of Haiku continue to inspire my soul. Thank you, Miss Townsend, for introducing me to this beautiful form of art.
